And a lot of people had similar feelings and the genre declined in popularity. I enjoyed what I thought RTS's were when I was younger, but then when I found out what actually wins RTS games it turns out that I don't find that as fun. The real way to win an RTS was by build order optimizations and APM and destroying the other guy before they could their economy going. We'd build our bases "just right" during a truce period and then when everybody was ready we'd have a big battle.īut when online came out we were taught just how badly we were playing RTS. When we were kids RTS games were base building games. Do you guys think a polished high fantasy base building RTS would be successful in today's game market or are MOBA games absorbing the crowd that would normally play a game like that?įrom the last time an RTS topic came up, it would seem that RTS games aren't so popular anymore because they weren't the games that we thought they were when we were kids. are there any games in development right now that fit what I'm looking for? There's also the remake of age of mythology and some older games like Majesty 2 but those are really outdated. I've looked around but the only recent titles I could find are things like Kingdom Wars (Dawn of Fantasy) which is terrible and Dungeons 2 which is a Dungeon Keeper type game and the RTS aspect is very light. And of course there's no hope of a BFME 3 ever being made. Some RTS games that are being developed are Dawn of War 3 and Halo Wars 2 but those wouldn't scratch that itch.īlizzard says that maybe they'll make Warcraft 4, but even if they decide to they'll take 8 years to develop it like blizzard does (not necessarily a bad thing) but who knows where we'll be by then. I've been waiting forever for someone to make another game like Battle for Middle Earth 2 where your units used swords, bows, magic and most factions could build walls and there were huge battles at times with catapults, armies of infantry, wizards and dragons all duking it out. RTS games in general aren't developed much anymore, it seems like the only recent quality RTS games are Starcraft 2 and Company of Heroes 2.
